Treasures From the Beach to Enhance my Photography

Turquoise beaded necklace with a pale blue pendant on white fabric, with a driftwood branch in the background.

Walking along Bennetts Beach in Hawks Nest near Tea Gardens the other day, I came across a few treasures to use in my jewellery photography.

Driftwood is one of my favourite backgrounds, along with shells and feathers I have collected over the years. The feathers didn't come from the beach though!

When I'm beachcombing, my eye is often drawn to objects that I can visualise using in photographs. A weathered piece of driftwood, an interesting shell, or a feather can all become part of the story behind a piece of jewellery.

I also like to use fabric as a background. Believe it or not, this one is actually a lovely top from my wardrobe. I love the way it drapes and creates different heights, allowing the necklace to be photographed from a variety of angles.

Sometimes inspiration for my jewellery photography comes from the most unexpected places.
